Past Abstract Work-
(Mixed media on canvas and paper)
The subject matter has always taken second place to experimenting
and developing new processes and techniques, using a variety
of paints.
Many artists have influenced my work including,Max Ernst's
earlier 'forest' paintings (where he creates surfaces by using
techniques such as frottage and grattage), and Daisy Cook's
'estuary' series in which she allows the paint to bleed naturally.
Experiences from land and coastal walks inspire the marks,
textures and colours. The paintings are made intuitively with
these ideas in mind.
As a series of paintings, they have in common one aim to
create a sense of space and place by focusing on interplay
between flatness and perspectives. This is achieved by contrasting
line with tonal areas in composition, making reference to
map lines from memory or photographs. for example see.
